White House Confirms: Obama Did Nothing as Americans Were Murdered in Benghazi

White House Counsel Kathryn H. Ruemmler has written a letter to Senators John McCain, Lindsey Graham and Kelly Ayotte, all senators on the Armed Services Committee that have been aggressively pursuing answers that would explain the apparent abandonment of Ambassador Chris Stevens and his staff and their murders at the hands of Islamic terrorists in Benghazi.

The Senators have been critical of the Obama Administration and the State Department for their apparent unwillingness to address the security concerns of Amb. Stevens in the days leading up to the attack. They have furthermore questioned why nothing was done to aid the consulate as it was under attack and they have also questioned why the Administration continually lied about the nature of the attack in the aftermath.

Ruemmler’s letter was a direct response to a query sent to the White House by the Senators that asked if President Obama had been in contact with Libyan officials the night of the attack, September 11th, 2012. According to Ruemmler’s letter, Obama had no contact with Libyan officials.

This is in addition to Leon Panetta and General Martin Dempsey’s testimony last week, where they each claimed that neither President Obama nor Secretary of State Hillary Clinton communicated with the defense department as the attack occurred. On the night in question, it appears that after a regularly scheduled meeting with Panetta, President Obama went home as the attack was underway and never checked in or anything of the like.

Ruemmler’s letter clarifies that while President Obama did not call Libyan officials, Clinton called Libyan President Mohammed Magariaf on Obama’s behalf that night “to coordinate additional support to protect Americans in Libya and access to Libyan territory.” According to Ruemmler’s etter, Obama called Magariaf the next evening.

According to The Hill,

“Republican lawmakers have threatened holds on Obama’s nominees for secretary of Defense and CIA director if they don’t get more answers about the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans on Sept. 11, 2012.

‘The president was virtually disengaged’ from ‘an attack you could see coming,’ Graham told reporters Thursday at a press conference alongside McCain and Ayotte.

Graham called the response a ‘breakdown in national security’ and said that if Obama had called the embassy in Tripoli or anyone else in Libya that night, ‘it could have made a difference.’

McCain said the administration has been ‘stonewalling’ Congress, while Ayotte bemoaned the fact that there were no U.S. air assets nearby despite warnings about the deteriorating security situation from the departments of State and Defense.

Ruemmler’s letter defended the Obama administration’s response to the attack.

‘This intensive response, which was directed by the President, included 13 meetings of interagency Principals and Deputies within a week of the attack and involved continuous outreach by senior administration officials to the Government of Libya, including by the President and members of his Cabinet.’”

Just what, exactly, President Obama was doing as Americans were being slaughtered still remains a mystery to the American people. Obama apparently did not coordinate with Panetta or Dempsey and did not coordinate with Libyan officials. However, in the aftermath of the attack, in October, Obama stated in an interview,

“…the minute I found out what was going on I gave three very clear directives. Number one, make sure we are securing our personnel and that we are doing whatever we need to. Number two, we are going to investigate exactly what happened and make sure it doesn’t happen again. Number three, find out who did this so we can bring them to justice.”

To whom he gave these supposed directives has yet to be clarified. In any case, the personnel were not secured, the investigation has been sluggish and the Obama Administration has been stonewalling investigators and nobody has been brought to justice for this attack.

I just want to see justice and these murdered men to be honored and remembered and those that failed to send help should be fired, and jailed. Period.

I want accountability and we need to see that it gets done. Enough is enough!

Alright, I have a few questions, then...

"Republican lawmakers have threatened holds on Obama’s nominees for secretary of Defense and CIA director if they don’t get more answers about the attack that killed Ambassador Christopher Stevens and three other Americans on Sept. 11, 2012."

How would holding up those nomination help anything? And isn't it irresponsible to hold up nominations to fill such important positions?

"‘The president was virtually disengaged’ from ‘an attack you could see coming,’ Graham told reporters..."

How did Graham see it coming? I don't recall him saying he saw it coming? Was it because of that sleazy anti-Islamic YouTube video that Graham saw it coming?

"Graham called the response a ‘breakdown in national security’ and said that if Obama had called the embassy in Tripoli or anyone else in Libya that night, ‘it could have made a difference.’"

How could that have made a difference? Wasn't the breakdown of Libyan security part of the problem in the first place?

This whole thing is a sleazy attack on the president by sleazy Republicans, who CUT spending for State Dept security before this happened, and are exploiting this tragedy to attack the Administration for what was clearly a set of bureaucratic errors that could have happened on anyone's watch. 9/11 anyone???

Just another cheap tantrum from McCain. Poor guy still has to go home and listen to his wife whine, "If only you hadn't picked the pole dancer, I'd be first lady."

So I can see why he's upset.

Still, people are tired off his act and this is only going to make Rethugs look more and more like the stupid party.

So, I guess you would agree that it's time we hold Bush responsible to 2000 deaths on 9/11?

Lindsey Graham has done a great job on trying to get information and keeping this in the news. He may be a RINO when it comes to illegal immigration, but I'm behind him on the Benghazi inquiry.

Yeah, you all just keep defending Obama, we know that he did NOTHING to help those poor men. He watched it and didn't give a damn. Excuse my language.

Debbie, so am I. The truth will come out and Obama will have to answer for their brutal deaths.

And keep believing the crap out of FOX News, Loser. Graham keeps asking questions that have been answered. And by the way, it was the GOP who voted against extra security. They cut the budget for embassy security. Won't hear that on Fox News, will ya?

Leticia said...

Anon, the liberal obsession with Fox News is becoming so comical. There are other non-biased news casts and websites.

Please enlighten me, what did Obama answer to the Benghazi tragedy?

First of all, you're a fringe right winger so any reporting of the incident is not going to change your mind.

There was an attack and casualties in the initial period before assistance was possible.

The attackers were forced back and the casualties reached. At this point the ambassador, who had been injured almost immediately, was taken to a hospital. However, he had no pulse and was pronounced dead.

A military response would have made the situation worse which is why Obama stood down.

There you have been enlightened and you will chose to remain ignorant.

Ducky's here said...

Point of order. The attack was against a consulate not an embassy.

About a month ago there was an attack on the Turkish embassy. Unfortunately a Turkish citizen was injured but the upgraded security prevented the suicide bomber from reaching a position to do serious damage.

I do not believe the matter of upgraded security was reported on Faux News which strives to keep the fringe right peeps ignorant.

Jersey: I agree completely with you that violates the Senate's duty of "Advice and Consent" toward such nominees to hinge the consent on matters that they even admit did not involve the nominee at all.

But yet again, maybe that is just me being sleazy :)

"Was it because of that sleazy anti-Islamic YouTube video that Graham saw it coming?"

I disagree that this noble expression of someone's First Amendment rights is 'sleazy' at all. Yes, here we strongly disagree. And it is now well known and was right away that this video had nothing to do with the Benghazi attack, and that Hillary and Rice were intentionally lying that it was related.

" Republicans, who CUT spending for State Dept security before this happened"

They still left PLENTY of money for security. It was ObamaCo that chose to waste so much on country-club assignments like guards in Aruba, instead of where it was needed and where people there kept pleading.

"9/11 anyone"

Indeed. That was proof of what happens when Presidents and others ignore real terrorist threats. Bush himself learned from this mistake made by both him and Bill Clinton. But the lesson has been forgotten.

Typical wingut, respond to facts with lunatic conjecture.

Jersey McJones said...

Well, dmarks, I have to say that was really substantive substantive rejoinder. Thank you.

I'm glad we agree that such nominations deserve up or down votes in as comprehensive and yet short order as possible. Hagel deserves the vote now.

Now, I said, "Was it because of that sleazy anti-Islamic YouTube video that Graham saw it coming?"

And you added, "I disagree that this noble expression of someone's First Amendment rights is 'sleazy' at all."

Do you actually consider that video "noble" in any way whatsoever? Really?

Anyways...

"Yes, here we strongly disagree. And it is now well known and was right away that this video had nothing to do with the Benghazi attack, and that Hillary and Rice were intentionally lying that it was related."

Bla bla bla. What a BS "issue." The republicans dressed up like clowns on that one, and embarrassed the heck out of themselves. There were attacks and riots and protests going on all over the place, because of that stupid, sleazy video. For a little while there, there was some talk of this attack being related. It was soon widely known that things were different, and the administration cleared things up as much as possible. Was it handled well operationally or politically? No. Has anyone anywhere said otherwise? No.

So why are the Republicans making themselves look like gossipy children here?

And I said, "Republicans, who CUT spending for State Dept security before this happened"

"They still left PLENTY of money for security. It was ObamaCo that chose to waste so much on country-club assignments like guards in Aruba, instead of where it was needed and where people there kept pleading."

Sounds like more gossipy child talk to me.

More to the substance, if you watched the hearings, you'd know that money wasn't the issue. I was simply pointing out the usual sleazy hypocrisy of the Republicans.

As for the sorts of breakdowns that lead to tragedies, it's all 20/20 in hindsight. Easy target for blathering fools.

Rather than blathering, we should be thinking about just how massive and unmanageable our international entanglements has become. HINT. HINT.

Yes the video is an absolutely noble pursuit. Were you born in North Korea or something? I disagree always with your "sleazy" assertion that artists should watch what they say lest they offend some savages in a cave halfway around the world. The problem lies 100% with the savages.

The adminstration did not clear things up as soon as possible. They kept blaming the video for weeks after the truth was widely known and reported.

What was gossipy? I am pointing out budget facts and how they available money was enough to take care of things.

How about some more substance from you, then? The unsupported "gossipy" insult is surely lowbrow, and "bla bla bla" is devoid of meaning.

If the money was not the issue (and the sensible budget cuts which did not impair security at all), why mention them?

Unmanagable? Not at all if people are doing their job. And yes I see you hint that we should give up and surrender when faces with aggression.

dmarks said...

Just sticking with the facts, Lib. These budget matters are not conjecture at all. Its all in the books.

With ALL the outrageous, and dumb programs proposed by Obama in his outrageous, and State of Union, the only thing that some of these MORONIC Progressives such as Shaw Kenawe could think about blogging was that Marco Rubio was drinking water from a bottle. Who cares! Who cares about what the FOOLS on the Radical Left care about. I guess that they must not care about the president’s NOT keeping his oath, because they never blog about that!
But instead they are freaking out about Marco Rubio was drinking water from a bottle.
I thought he came off as very sincere and that’sa hell of a lot more than I can say for Barrack Hussein Obama!
The lame stream, media doesn’t seem to care, but Marco Rubio did! Marco Rubio is more real than Obama can ever be.
He took a drink of water? So what?

Obama and Hillary let four Americans die in Benghazi, he sends drones over America, and he ignores the Constituion. His reputation stays intact. Rubio takes a drink of water and his political career is over. What´s wrong with this country?

this is even a story tells how dumbed down the country has become, and how disgusting that the main stream media has sunk to the point and most of all how shallow these people on the left are. To think that theses are brainless voters we have here in America. They ignore the substance of the speech and focus on a drink of water.
Where is the outrage on Barack Obama wanting to cut military spending that is only going to lead to the killing of American troops. Obama wants to be judge, jury and executioner as well as the king.

Ducky, first, I did read what you had to say and thank you for answering as well as you could. However, have you really read everything there is to read about what really happened to the ambassador? Or the footage of his horrific death. Did you also hear that there was help by the Navy and were told to "stand down."

dmarks, absolutely correct about the video that was just a "red herring." I think I got that right. The government was looking for someone to blame, but the threat was already there. And right now I want answers, and America needs answers and those brave men deserve to have peace.

Lib, dmarks made perfect sense, if you have proof of your nonsense, let's see it. Your name calling does nothing except confirm what most people believe about liberals.

Jersey, at this point, I don't even care what party takes care of this, someone has to be held accountable for this debacle. Someone needs to speak up. And I want to know who gave the order for our military to "stand down" and twiddle their thumbs while their comrades were being murdered.

Anon, no argument from me! I completely agree with you. The Left are worried about Rubio being a threat and they have to find something to complain about him. But drinking water?? Pathetic attempt at slander.

Cyber, precisely! The liberals don't want to know the truth or care to know the truth. And to focus on Rubio and his bottled water is beyond stupidity. I agree! Obama is behaving like a tyrant and no one bats an eye. He has weakened our military and is leaving our troops just as helpless as our Benghazi victims.

I agree about your assessment regarding Hilary. I concur wholeheartedly.

Welcome anon and Cyber. We need more conservatives here defending our nation against the lies of the Left.

Yes. the military and security resources were there and available. So it seems odd that Jersey and others bring up the budget cuts which only required some belt tightening and cutting some outright waste, and nothing like this.

My message to the liberal comment writers and the progressive bloggers, Do you people care about four dead Americans, or are you so damn hell bent upon saving Obama and Hillary from embarrassment? Do you want answers or don't you give a damn?
You cretins just sit there and accept anything that this president says to save his ass. Is that they way you acted when President Bush brought us into Iraq, or did you bitch about it til kingdom come?
We have yet to get any SATISFYING ANSWERS on Benghazi, and I'm betting that we never will.

You can bet that if Bhenghazi had happened on Bush's watch these progressive bloggers like Shaw and her ilk would be screaming for bush's resignation/impeachment. Instead they protects Obozo along with the rest of this administration's slobbering psychopaths . .
