The Armed Citizen: Fight Crime By Fighting Back

I believe the video just about sums it up. American citizens need to protect themselves. Guns don't kill people, people kill with guns.

This is true!

Which I support for all schools, colleges, etc..

And one more thing, I firmly believe in the Right to Bear Arms, and will not back off from it. We must be able to protect ourselves and our families. And I will.

Not a bad solution.

I just told you….
We had not had a mass shooting in 16 years.
But you’re not even interested in knowing how that was achieved…
How we have gun death rate less than 10% of yours per capita.
You don’t want to know about it.

No… you want to know how they do it in warzones instead.

You want to have shootouts in classrooms with near-sighted Lucy the Librarian packing a weapon of mass slaughter.

That’s the condition you prefer.

hardassamI said...

We protect our politicians with men with guns, why not our children?

Magpie said...

Because that doesn't work either, they get shot too.

Ameerica leads the developed world in gun death. Whatever you think you are doing, it's not working. America leads the developed world in gun ownership too... has it ever occurred to you there is connection?

All I'm talking about is high powered weapons that belong in the military, and registration and checks - liked you have to drive a car.

Put armed guards in the schools... go for it. But don't think that will deter someone who is already prepared to die.

Try not to be ideological about it.

Can you all not agree that military weapons don't belong where any nutcase can get them?

Magpie: We are a very different country than Australia. We are violent. We also have a higher automobile death rate, and we are killed and injured at a higher rate by adventurous and sporting activities.

If you look at non-related gun injuries and fatalities, the disparity with other Western nations remains, so it's not the guns.

Silverfiddle said...

Historically, over the past 20 years, 60-70 % of murders were committed with a firearm.

What do you think would happen if we could magically make them all disappear?

How much do you think it would lower the murder rate?

Would murderers just give up, or would they go to another weapon?

Now, let's get back to the real world, and suppose we imposed a gun ban that people would find ways around.

How many less murders would there be, since murders are carried out by people who don't care about the law anyway?

Magpie said...

Yes it's a different country. It has greater problems of poverty and extremism. Not sure your sports are any more dangerous.

Doesn't change the fact that civilian access to military weapons can and does end badly. Doesn't change the fact that teachers are not commandos.

My condolences, by the way.

Magpie said...

And I don't think you could make all murders disappear, but you average maybe 20 mass murders a year. If even one in five was thwarted, surely that is something.

There is a level of 'acceptance' in this discussion that is awful. It's as if everyone is just resigned to things never getting better.

Richest country in the world and one of the most advanced and yet you are drowning in blood. Surely you deserve better.

cube said...

We don't need to ban guns. We need to ban gun-free zones.

Jersey McJones said...

Ah, conservativism... the endless quest for the most simplistic answer for any complex problem.

The more we learn about Adam Lanza, the more we are learning that he is an anomaly as far as mass murderers are concerned.

I do think that our nation needs to address our country's failings with regard to confining certain individuals. It now appears that, after years of struggling with trying to rear a violent child, Nancy Lanza was in the process of getting her son committed; apparently, Adam found out about her plans. See THIS. Something similar happened here in Northern Virginia in 2005 -- on Christmas Day.

Exactly right Leticia, arm the teachers. As i predicted, obama is angling to strip you of your last defense too, sadly you didn't boot that scumbag out at the last election, let's see if some of you will hold the line this time.

They want you defenseless, on your knees with no rights, like the rest of us, always has been, always will be.

Right Wing Theocrat said...

Oh and if you want to know how swell gun control is working out for us, just google - sydney drive by shooting.

Fortunately most of the shooters have crappy aim, but even if their bullets happen to find targets, you can be sure the gun-haters will simply call for even more restrictions on the innocent and law abiding. It's the lazy, lowest-mental-effort argument that suits the twitter generation perfectly.

Most of the gun and knife crime simply goes unreported and ignored because the people know there's no point. Little is or can be done and few really give a rats ass anyway.

So long as it's someone else getting shot, raped, stabbed and/or murdered and they 'feel' warm and safe, that's all that matters.

Leticia said...

Magpie, that's why people are TRAINED before they are issued a license to carry a firearm. If someone is not competent enough then I am positive the instructor would not allow that person to use a firearm.

In my harsh neighborhood, we homeowners MUST have protection and let me tell you, a high powered weapon would deter the scum coming into my home. All that have to hear is the cocking of the gun.

Hardassaml, welcome! Exactly!!! YES! Our children deserve the same protection and more.

Silver, spot-on. I used to live in El Paso and let me tell you, the gangs there were better equipped than our police officers. There were neighborhoods that everyone knew NEVER to enter day or night. These guys were heavily armed.

Banning guns would be big celebration for them. Easier targets.

Those that live in nice neighborhoods, have no idea what it is like to have bars on your windows and doors, to be aware at all times, at the gas stations, parks, the mall, etc. Crime was high when I lived there. I was grateful living on a military base with my family. But when my parents decided to live off post, we knew how to protect our home.

I firmly believe in background checks, especially those with a history of mental illness. And every person wanting to own a firearm should be trained and licensed. Just my opinion.

Jersey, what's your solution. Be like that picture I posted, you pointing your finger and a criminal pointing a gun at you? There has to be a part of you that wishes to protect yourself and your family from someone who has one intent, to kill you and your family.

Thanks, MK! And for sharing what happens with gun banning. I guess you all can use a baseball bat or sword to defend yourself with someone with a gun? NOT! It's insane to leave people defenseless.

hardassamI said...

This nut-job killed his own mother and the liberals think that if we add another gun law to the many laws we already have would have stopped him?
When a deranged killer wants to kill someone, NO law is going to stop him..

Jersey McJones said...

Leticia, I've looked guns in the eye. Not a pleasant experience.

Had I been armed? Probably not a good result.

That's the trouble with guns - whoever aims them first wins.

Why a good Christian mom like you would be so enamored with our gun culture is beyond me. It's just risky, pointless behavior, this stupid, childish love of guns.

Leticia said...

hardassl, I know but they just don't get it.

Jersey, first of all, I am not ashamed, any longer, to share this, because I am a survivor through God's Holy Grace, I know it was Him that kept me alive.

You are NOT the only one who has had a gun pointed at them, whose had a knife at their throat and beaten to a pulp. I was defenseless and could do NOTHING to protect myself, except use my arms and legs and curl up into a ball to protect my body from further injury. Had I had a gun, that scumbag would have been dead.

I am NOT fascinated, obsessed or in love with guns. My life and the lives of my children are worth protecting and fighting for and I will NEVER, EVER! Allow anyone to hurt me or my children in any manner or form, I will do what it takes to keep us safe and if that means owning a gun and using it to do so, then that's exactly what I will do.

So you and your liberal pals can go ahead and judge me all you want, but I know what it's like to live through that kind of hell. And it won't happen again and I will make sure it never happens to my babies, no matter what it takes. Got it?!

hardassamI said...

It's nice to have you imbeciles here who will lame this tragedy in Connecticut, on our Gun Laws. There aren't any facts here, just simply fantasies and allegations from the usual conspiracy lefties.

Silverfiddle said...

Jersey: You liberals are the ones peddling simple-minded 'solutions.'

Mass killings are horrific, but they are a drop in the bucket compared to the daily murders that go on.

It's the culture! We are a crass and violent society that respects nothing.

Something else to consider, 90% of murders are committed by people who already have a criminal record, so the tens of millions of law-abiding gun owners in this country are not the ones slaughtering their fellow citizens.

It is the criminals who get their weapons illegally.

I agree with El Jefe Maximo Bloomberg: Go after the illegal trafficking.

Also, cube makes a good point. Why do all these shootings take place in 'gun free zones?'

I too have been threatened and shot at with guns, not a pretty experience, but I don't know what that has to do with the subject at hand.

So, if this kid's mother had not the weaponry at his disposal, how would he have killed 27 people?" You're the 'imbecile.'

How many shootings since Sandy Hook?

In Australia, after a 1996 ban on all automatic and semiautomatic weapons — a real ban, not like the one we enacted in 1994 with 600-plus exceptions — gun-related homicides dropped 59 percent over the next decade. The rate of suicide by firearm plummeted 65 percent."

A few hours before the Newtown murders last week, a man entered a school in China’s Henan province. Obviously mentally disturbed, he tried to kill children. But the only weapon he was able to get was a knife. Although 23 children were injured, not one child died.

Silverfiddle said...

So Liberalmann's "logic" leads us to believe that if we can replace stabbings with shootings, we will have accomplished something.

Thomas Sowell, as usual, has the antidote to such twaddle:

Invincible Ignorance"

In Britain, such people have been so successful that legal gun ownership has been reduced almost to the vanishing point, while even most convicted felons in Britain are not put behind bars. The crime rate, including the rate of crimes committed with guns, is far higher in Britain now than it was back in the days when there were few restrictions on Britons buying firearms.

In 1954, there were only a dozen armed robberies in London but, by the 1990s-- after decades of ever tightening gun ownership restrictions-- there were more than a hundred times as many armed robberies.

Now, about Australia. The overall murder rate did not drop 59%, meaning murderers found other means to commit their crimes.

I am conflicted about whether or not we should arm the teachers. Many teachers are in unions and don't have too much common sense. I'm not sure I want liberals with guns. I mean I could see them shooting up conservatives for giving what they deem to be a "wrong" answer or not conforming to their ideology. But I am for armed guards or armed retired police officers or armed retired veterans protecting our schools.

Great video Leticia! It showed that guns are necessary for peoples self-defense when they are being threatened by an armed criminal.

Yes, becasue loony wingnuts have such an impressive record with their rampages, lol! Dolt.

Silverfiddle said.."So Liberalmann's "logic" leads us to believe that if we can replace stabbings with shootings, we will have accomplished something."
The bottom line is if this kid didn't have the access to assault weaponry, in his own home, from his own (loony survivalist) mother, this would not have happened.

States with stricter gun laws have fewershootings:

Teresa said...

"At the crudest level, as Justice Breyer wrote, violent crime in Washington has increased since the ban took effect in 1976. “Indeed,” he continued, 'a comparison with 49 other major cities reveals that the district’s homicide rate is actually substantially higher relative to these other cities than it was before the handgun restriction went into place.'"

Gary Kleck said, “We know the D.C. handgun ban didn’t reduce homicide,” he said in an interview.

Liberalmann displays a special kind of naivete. He is clueless about guns, gun laws, and how gun laws affect the average citizen.

Leticia said...

Teresa, I see your point and I wonder if maybe the can have some type of mental competence questionnaire before they begin their training.

Lib, then don't get gun and let those that want them so be it. And we already spoke about the mother knowing her son had mental issues, she should have known better, but she was desperate to reach her child. I will NOT blame her for what that monster did.

Think about this as Silver and so many here have pointed out, these shootings are happening in "Gun Free Zones." ALSO.... if you recall he only stopped shooting once he heard the sirens of the police coming and knew there would be resistance and someone would be there to stop him, so what did he do? He shot himself like the coward he was.

Jersey McJones said...

Leticia, I'm not judging you. What I'm saying is that you probably couldn't take an AR-15 with you everywhere, and the odds of anyone reacting to a sudden attack with a gun are always slim, anyway. That is not to make light. It is to be realistic. I know the street, Leticia.

We need to restrain the availability and lethality of the weapons on the common market today. There are too many loonies out there and too many dead children to bury for We as a People to do otherwise.

I'm getting really tired of you "personally responsible" conservatives advocating an utterly irresponsible society. It's getting really old, stupid, and tragic.

Teresa said...

Conservatives believe that people who are for gun control and say this -- "We need to restrain the availability and lethality of the weapons on the common market today." -- are irresponsible and/or that you and others are advocating for irresponsible laws that have deathly consequences limiting the lawful citizens access to certain guns in order to defend ourselves.

I am just pointing out our difference of opinion in what people believe to be irresponsible. Now I do agree that background checks need to changed and expanded. Plus, the mental health community needs to be reformed in some capacity.

I have no problem with you or anyone else not owning guns but do you have a problem with responsible citizens, which are the vast majority of gun owners, being able to choose which guns they want to own?

Leticia said...

Jersey, I couldn't hold up an AR-15, I tried, too big for my small frame, I am only 4'11 and weigh about 118. Sooo...I would be using a semi-automatic pistol, something easy to carry and conceal. I have one but I need a better one.

I don't believe anyone would be walking around with AR-15's, we are talking concealable automatic or semi-automatics weapons.

As for policemen and retired veterans working at the schools, most definitely they should be armed to the tooth.

Sorry if I got a little emotional on my last response but women need to protect themselves. A friend of mine was attacked at a gas station, one was almost kidnapped at the mall, etc.

I carry mace and a small pocket knife but I intend to get a concealed weapons license and purchase a better gun to keep with me at all times.

Teresa, I agree completely. Background checks, etc. But criminals find ways around the system.

The drive-by shooters that shot at my neighbors house were using some type of high powered rifles. It was a nightmare. They know how to acquire guns without the law knowing about it.

Those that are registered and get trained are truly honest and only use them for hunting or protecting themselves and their loved ones.

A message from Wayne, "I own guns: Rifles, shotguns, and handguns. I even have a concealed weapons license. I hunt and am not anti-gun. But I would like to distinguish people who are like I am from people who are gun extremists. There are no freedoms that are not accompanied by related responsibilities. My freedom of speech is reasonably constrained by legal and moral responsibilities, e.g. I can't slander, yell "fire" in a crowded theater, or bear false witness. Similarly, my second amendment rights are not absolute either. If you can't accept reasonable, sensible restraints on our rights to own guns, then you may be a gun extremist."

Lets face the facts, Obama has surrounded himself with dolts and tax cheats and Clinton Administration retreads. Half the people he’s nominated to Cabinet positions including the biggest lair of them all, Hillary Clinton. Some others of them have had to back out due to failure to pay taxes, and others have survived their tax failures and settled into their seats of power, expecting you & me to play by the rules that they flaunt. Nancy Killefer was gonna be the new Chief Performance Officer (whatever the fuck THAT is) but she’s a tax cheat. Tom “Dash-hole” Daschle withdrew from consideration as Health & Human Services Secretary. New Mexico Governor Bill Richardson was on the short list to for both State and Commerce, and withdrew over a grand jury investigation into ethics and the awarding of contracts to his supporters.
Alleged financial wunderkind Tim Geithner is now the SecTreasury, but is such a financial imbecile that he “accidentally” cheated on his taxes due to an inability to operate TurboTax. Kansas Governor Kathleen Sebelius is the latest nominee to the poisoned post of HHS, and she has tax problems. And what in the HELL is Arizona Governor Janet Napolitano doing as Secretary of Homeland Security? Is this a joke?

She couldn’t keep illegals out of her own state so how in the hell can we expect her to secure the entire nation? Arizona’s biggest import is Mexicans, followed by dope. Arizona’s biggest export to other states is Mexicans, followed by dope. She has the fucking audacity to call the Global War on Terror a “contingency”, and terrorism is now simply a “man-caused disaster”. What kind of politically correct bullshit is that? Why not just call it an Oopsie, or a Mildly Unpleasant Misunderstanding? And Shrillary Hillay Clinton…her and Obama were at each other’s throats all through the elections, and now they play all nicey-nice as she kow-tows to various foreign hosts and places all the blame for Mexico’s drain-circling on our shoulders. Maybe she’s just purposely assing it up to make Obie look bad? And lest we forget Barney “Buddy Hackett” Frank and Nasty Nancy Pelosi and Dianne Feinstein and Dirty Harry Reid…and that embarrassment Joe Biden...gawd, it took 233 years to get us here as a nation, and less than 90 days to derail the American Dream. Hope and Change!!! Yes We Can!!
