A new poll taken for the occasion of the 400th anniversary of the King James Bible reveals that a majority of those under 35 in the United Kingdom don't even know about the work, which has been described as a significant part of the estimated 100 million Bible sales annually, making it the best best-seller, ever. "Yet this is a work which was far more influential than Shakespeare in the development and spread of English," a spokesman for the King James Bible Trust told the Christian Institute in a recent report. The Christian Institute's report said the translation, which will celebrate its 400th anniversary next year, was the subject of a poll commissioned by the Bible Trust, and a spokesman said it was clear "there has been a dramatic drop in knowledge in a generation."
This is very sad news indeed. I cannot help but feel a bit angry. I blame pastors, bible teachers, etc. For excluding this wonderful, artistic, majestic and beautiful book claiming it is archaic, dated and not for today, so instead they use the NIV or Amplified which takes and adds verses.
All those watered down versions pollute and distort the KJV. I am not going to get into a debate of why I believe this, I have posted on this subject various times. You know were I stand and I have provided ample examples of the vile versions that have been circulating these past few years and many more keep popping up.
Anyhow, this really breaks my heart.

I grew up using the KJV.
In addition to the spiritual benefits, I had a leg up when the study of Shakespeare came along.
AOW, that is so true!! Although, I must admit Shakespeare was and still is a challenge for me, lol!
Sadly, our faith is dying. Christianity is receding across the world and the biggest churches in the West have turned from God to social justice and the ever so popular God is love meme. As such, religion has become a club rather than a way of life. Therefore, it does not surprise me that most people under the age of 35 are not aware of the KJV as it is less forgiving than other watered down versions. I recall the letters written on the isle of Patmos by St. John and the charges he leveled against the churches then. I doubt that he would be encouraged by today's faith such as it is.
I'm sure that most of these people don't know much about ANY Bible version, Leticia. Britain is, sadly, a spiritual wasteland.
But not to worry... they'll know all about the Koran in another generation or two!
I wonder how many have never touched a bible at all?
and we wonder why the world is fallin apart girl...HOPE ya had a fabulous holiday weekend..I'm still full..lol:)
I'd venture a guess most haven't heard of ANY translation of the BIble!
We memorize verses in the Bible Study Group I'm a facilitator of and the older ladies ALWAYS say "Wow, this verse is sure prettier in the King James Version, the one we learned from then!" (we study from the NIV) THey're right..the verses are so beautiful in the KJV.
William, I agree. St. John, would be shocked of how some churches are completely lacking in teaching about faith and most importantly that Jesus is the only way to heaven. Some of the mega churches don't even touch the subject of sin.
Karen, it is just heartbreaking that the KJV is so hated and ignored that in a few more years may be completely washed out and other distorted and twisted versions will take its place.
Silver, that is a very good question. And I would be afraid to know the answer.
Angel, yeah, we need a bible that has stood the test of time, Satan sure wants this precious book destroyed. I had a great Thanksgiving holiday. I hope you did as well.
Z, I am afraid that could be very true. I agree, the KJV is just absolutely beautiful and poetic, it's a wonderful love letter from our Father.
Given the ass-kissing to islam and the stupidity dished up by their godless elite dutifully swallowed by more than enough voters, i'm surprised they've even heard of a Bible.
This is sad news. The secularization moves to remove God from our society and at the same time is diminishing morality and ethical values.
MK, true. But somehow Christians are remiss in spreading the gospel. It's very sad.
Teresa, I believe that is the whole point. Take out the Word of God and remove Him from all places and then people can make up their own morality rules.
